MYCOFLORA PROJECT

GET INVOLVED

The goal of this project is to collaborate with naturalists & mycology enthusiasts of all levels to map the distribution and diversity of fungi & fungus-like organisms in the Central Valley & Sierra Nevada area. This region is historically understudied despite its fungal diversity. With your help, we can shed light on this uncharted area. You can find our projects below.

We would love to partner with you to build these mycological compendia, here are two ways you can collaborate with us and begin contributing to the field of mycology as a citizen scientist:

1) Create an account on Mushroom-Observer, then come back to this page and enter your account info below so that we can add you as a project member.

2) Create an account with iNaturalist, all fungal observations tagged in and around Fresno county will automatically by added into our mycoflora project.

*Note: Step-by-step guides on creating observations and adding them into these projects in both MushroomObserver and iNaturalist are attached below.

Caution: When collecting wild fungi, never consume anything you find in nature without first consulting an expert. To help familiarize yourself with these species, an attached a list of edible and toxic fungi can be viewed and downloaded below.
